Description

This is a very traditional and common buttermilk recipe, it’s simple but absolutely divine.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 c. Flour
  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp. Baking Powder
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/3 C. Melted and Cooled Butter
  • 2 c. Buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients in medium bowl.
  2. Mix wet ingredients in a separate bowl.
  3. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, do not over mix. Some lumps are fine.
  4. Rest uncovered for 10 minutes to allow the gluten to absorb the liquid. It will also increase the flavor and result in softer, lighter waffle.
  5. While batter rests, turn on waffle maker to heat up.
  6. After 10 minutes, grease the waffle maker, and pour 1/3-1/2 cup of batter into the waffle maker. This will depend on the size of your waffle maker but you want about .5 to 1 inch of room around the edge to allow the waffle to expand.
  7. My waffle maker takes about 2-3 minutes per waffle. This will also vary depending on your waffle maker.
  8. Serve hot with your choice of toppings!

Notes

We love homemade whipped cream and triple berry sauce on these waffles. Nutella and bananas are also amazing! Or go back to basics and just add homemade butter with maple syrup. These waffles are packed with flavor, they don’t need much to elevate them, and are sure to impress any guests in your home.
